Often a patient’s anxiousness about having an injection or a tooth being pulled is worse than the actual pain itself. Almost 80-90% of our patients do not even realize that they had local anesthetic or that the tooth is already been pulled!
Our dental team understand how to describe the experience including the feeling, textures, flavors in a slow, gentle, and comfortable manner, thus eliminating anxiousness that may accompany dental treatment. So we stress the importance of parents not to describe local anesthesia or their experiences in the past to their children but let us do all the work for you (before and) during their appointment.
For children that are too anxious for any treatment, we have several sedation options that the dental team will review with our parents.
The duration of numbness after treatment varies from patient to patient and depends on what drug was used. Generally the numbness wears off after an hour. Parents must be careful to watch their child for chewing or biting of inner cheeks, lips, or tongue that can cause them to be injured.
